Karen P. Barrett, M.A., Director of the Louis Anzalone Braille Center

Helen Keller Services for the Blind’s Louis Anzalone Braille Center is one of New York’s primary production and distribution centers for Braille and large-print textbooks for students, who are blind or visually impaired, in grades K-12. Karen Barrett, Director, is responsible for overseeing all textbook production; managing Library staff and volunteers; and working with Teachers of the Visually Impaired and the New York State Resource Center to ensure children receive their school materials at the beginning of the school year. Prior to becoming Director, Barrett was the Operations Manager for the Center.

Barrett has also worked as a Vocational Counselor for Nassau BOCES Career Center and a Work Adjustment Counselor for the National Center for Disability Services.

She received her Master of Arts in Rehabilitation Counseling from the Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Clark University.
