Staff supports the lifestyles of four to five permanent residents 24 hours a day and helps these adults to pursue job and leisure opportunities that match their interests and abilities. The residents hold down jobs in the community and assist with housekeeping tasks in their home including meal planning, grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning and decorating the apartments. They also are active in their town, doing volunteer work, participating in local events and patronizing businesses in the area.
The funding for Destiny Home comes through the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities.

Destiny Home’s specially trained staff provides support 24 hours each day, working one-on-one with residents to explore their interests, identify activities that they might enjoy and provide the appropriate supports to ensure accessibility and foster self-empowerment. Since a few of the residents lack a formal method of communication, staff members are trained in alternative communication techniques, including the use of specialized apps and accessibility features on the iPad, object cues, object symbols, gestures, and tactile and visual sign language.
