Are you DeafBlind and looking for an experience that will provide you with the skills and knowledge to pursue a career in rehabilitation services? Do you have an employment plan in place, and some training and skill in the area of vocational rehabilitation? HKNC offers a unique experience that just might be what you are looking for.
Applicants must be currently unemployed or underemployed and seeking employment in the rehabilitation field working with individuals who are DeafBlind. This program embraces the philosophies of self-leadership, self-employment and peer collaborative learning. Interns will have the chance to gain skills and experiences to support their goal to become an instructor, trainer or habilitation specialist.
Opportunities are available in various rehabilitation areas such as independent living, communication, braille, adaptive technology, vocational development, residential habilitation, advocacy and other related fields. The expected outcome after the internship is successful employment in the blind or DeafBlind rehabilitation field.
This program provides a truly unique opportunity to gain experience working alongside colleagues who are also DeafBlind. The program promotes peer-to-peer instruction and engagement of DeafBlind leaders in the rehabilitation field.
Initially established through a 3-year grant funded by the Lavelle Fund for the Blind, this program may be supported currently through vocational rehabilitation services in your state.
