With over 125 years of experience serving people who are blind, have low vision or combined vision and hearing loss in the greater New York area, HKSB is uniquely able to understand and help meet the challenges of individuals with developmental disabilities — whether or not they are also blind.
That’s because we know that, regardless of ability, all people deserve to set and achieve their own goals and live with optimal independence and self-determination. Our on-site, residential and in-home services are designed to support adults with developmental disabilities and the people who care for them.
We offer a full range of services for individuals with developmental disabilities. Although the majority of our participants are blind, have vision loss, or are DeafBlind, vision loss is not a requirement for admission.
Our day habilitation program provides daytime educational and recreational activities for individuals who are developmentally disabled and may be blind or have vision loss. We offer a site-based program in Hempstead, NY and a Program Without Walls in Islandia, NY.
Helen Keller Services operates a six-bed individualized residential alternative in Wantagh, NY.
Our community habilitation services are designed to support individuals to become more independent in their homes and in their communities.
