Hand-eye binocular coordination, near and distance vision, focusing and eye movement skills and peripheral awareness are evaluated during an exam.
We evaluate children ages 3-17 years old affected by a range of conditions, including:

Our low vision optometrists will assess your child’s vision and work with them to maximize their eyesight through the use of visual aids:
Lens-Based Optical Aids
Lighted magnifiers, both hand held and stand magnifiers of varied powers
Pocket-sized telescopes for distance spotting.
Conventional glasses and sunglasses
Near-vision, prism-based spectacles
Glare-control lenses
Frame-mounted near-vision aids similar to what a dentist might use
Frame-mounted telescopes or all-in-one telescopic frame-based system for distance
Sports goggles
Swim goggles
HKSB’s Low Vision Clinic is an integral part of the overall care available to someone with low vision. We empower individuals who are blind or have vision loss to live, work and thrive in their community of choice.
Admissions
Proof of legal blindness is required for admission. Services are free if you if you meet the eligibility requirements and participate in a NYS Commission for the Blind rehabilitation program. Certain optical aids and adaptive equipment are provided based on economic need.
